How Did Beverley Allitt Get Caught?

Beverly Allit was apprehended after staff of the hospital where she worked raised alarm over deaths of children in the ward as a result of cardiac arrest.

Police investigations revealed that Allitt was the only nurse working at the time of all the attacks.

The victims had experienced lung collapse in a very short while.

Who Is Beverly Allit And What Did She Do?

Allit is an English serial child killer who has a history of killing no less than four children, three attempted child murders and causing grievous bodily harm to another six children.

Allit was arrested in 1991, for the crimes she had committed within 59 days in the children’s ward at Grantham and Kesteven Hospital, Lincolnshire, where she worked as a nurse.

Her victims were said to have been inducted with high doses of insulin, while some had large air bubbles in their systems, leading to lung collapse.

In 1993, Allit bagged 13 life sentences for her crimes and was jailed.

The case of Allit and her victims spurred popular culture to bring the subject to remembrance after many years.

Author Nick Davies wrote a book titled Murder on Ward Four; BBC also aired a drama about the case titled Angel of Death (2005); and the true crime documentaries Crimes That Shook Great Britain, Deadly Women, Born To Kill?, Evil Up Close, Britain’s Most Evil Killers and Nurses Who Kill.

Popular singer Tony Martin also composed a Black Sabbath song “The Hand That Rocks The Cradle”, just to tell the dark stories behind the name Beverly Allit.
