What Did Maxine Carr Get Charged With?

Former classroom assistant Maxine Carr was charged with conspiracy after trying to pervert justice over the killing of Holly Marie Wells and Jessica Aimee Chapman, in 2002.

Carr was accused of assisting the killers of Holly and Jessica. She was sentenced to three and a half years in prison and earned the reputation of being the most hated woman in Britain.

Holly Wells, 10, and Jessica Chapman, 10, had gone missing during a BBQ in Soham, Cambridgeshire on August 4, 2002.

Carr, who was a teaching assistant at the school of Holly and Jessica, was involved in the search, together with her boyfriend, Ian Huntley. But little did anyone know that the duo were the perpetrators.

Holly and Jessica were lured into the home of Ian Kevin Huntley, who murdered them via asphyxiation.

Their bodies were later discovered in an irrigation ditch in Suffolk, on 17 August 2002.

The incident was termed The Soham murders because the crime was committed at Soham, Cambridgeshire, England on 4 August 2002.

Carr eventually served 21 months of a 42 month prison sentence. She was released in 2004.
