Musgrove was untouchable over seven innings Sunday night at Citi Field in New York, shutting down the New York Mets’ potent offense at every turn.

He became the first pitcher in postseason history to allow two hits or fewer, pitching seven or more innings in a winner-take-all game.

He allowed one hit in seven innings with five strikeouts and one walk, throwing 59 of 86 pitches for strikes.

The only hit Musgrove allowed was to Mets slugger Pete Alonso in the bottom of the fifth inning.

It should be remembered that Musgrove threw the first no-hitter in Padres history, the first of a record nine no-hitters across baseball in 2021 that helped prompt a crackdown by MLB that June on the use of foreign sticky substances by pitchers to improve their grip.
