Indian academician Dr. Temsula Ao, died on October 9, 2022, at age 76.

“Saddened by the passing away of Dr Temsüla Ao, who played a pivotal role in popularising the wonderful Naga culture through her literary works. Her efforts in the fields of education and culture were noteworthy. Condolences to her family and friends. May her soul rest in peace”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter.
Funeral arrangements for the late literary icon will be communicated to the public in due time.

Who Was Temsula Ao?
Dr. Temsula Ao, was a former head of the Nagaland State Commission for Women.

She was a recipient of several awards including the Padma Shri award, the Nagaland Governor’s Award for Distinction in Literature, the Sahitya Akademi Award, and the Meghalaya Governor’s Gold Medal.
Dr. Temsula Ao taught English at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), until her retirement in 2010.
Some of her works can be found in other languages such as German, French, Hindi, Assamese, and Bengali.
Her poetic works include Songs that Tell (1988), Songs that Try to Say (1992), Songs of Many Moods (1995), Songs from Here and There (2003), Songs From The Other Life (2007), Book of Songs: Collected Poems 1988-2007 (2013), and Songs along the Way Home (2019).
