McCaffrey collaborated closely with Sorokin’s former friend, Rachel Williams, to facilitate the “sting.”
Anna Sorokin was a resident of Passages Malibu, a luxury rehab/addiction treatment facility near the beach in Los Angeles County, California, at the time.
Officer McCaffrey had Sorokin’s former friend arrange a lunch meeting outside of the facility to persuade her to enter a more public venue where an arrest could be made more easily.

Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department arrested Sorokin after she left the addiction treatment facility.
Later that month, Sorokin was charged with two counts of attempted grand larceny in the first degree, three counts of grand larceny in the second degree, and one count of grand larceny in the third degree.
She was also charged with one count of misdemeanour theft of services for the fraudulent loan applications to City National and Fortress, check fraud, the cost of the trip to Morocco, and unpaid hotel and restaurant bills.
