Annie Ernaux is a French writer and literature professor. Annie Ernaux is the mother of two sons, Eric and David. Details about her children’s lives are unknown.

Ernaux is the author of several short autobiographical novels that have received critical acclaim for their compellingly honest exploration of human emotions as well as their spare, well-wrought prose style.

Her works have received the French language prize and the Marguerite Yourcenar prize, as well as the publication of her nearly complete works to date in Gallimard’s Quarto edition in 2011

Ernaux is the first woman writer to be published in this series in her lifetime. The University of Cergy-Pontoise bestowed an honorary doctorate on her in 2014.

She received the Nobel Prize in literature in October 2022 “for the courage and clinical acuity with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements, and collective restraints of personal memory.”
