A family of four from California who had been missing since Monday, October 3, 2022, were discovered dead two days after they were kidnapped at gunpoint, sparking a manhunt.

Surveillance video taken outside the family’s business in Merced, a town of nearly 90,000 people east of San Jose, showed them being led out and driven away by an armed man.
The person of interest in the kidnapping has been identified as Jesus Manuel Salgado by authorities.
He attempted suicide before being apprehended and was taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to the sheriff’s office.

Salgado was convicted of robbery in 2005 and released on parole in 2015, according to county law enforcement officials. The motive for the kidnapping and killing remained unknown according to authorities.
Vern Warnke, Sheriff of Merced County, stated during a news conference Wednesday, October 5 night. “What happened here was senseless.”
Aroohi Dheri’s body was discovered in the same general area as her parents, Jasleen Kaur and Jasdeep Singh, as well as the child’s uncle, Amandeep Singh.
