Hans was born on June 20, 2003, in San Francisco, California, and taught himself the game of chess.

Hans Niemann Career

Hans began playing chess at age 8 after completing his elementary school education at Del Rey Elementary School in Orinda.

He went on to attend the Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School, and then Weston High School.

In 2012, Hans made it to the Dutch National Youth Chess Championship. His Elo rating rose from 2450 to 2650 within a space of three years.

He also participated in the US tournament, the SuperNationals V and the PRO Chess League.

Other competitions he took part include the Las Vegas Desert Rats (2017), Saint Louis Arch Bishops (2019) and Norway Gnomes (2020).

Hans earned the Grandmaster title in 2021 and went on to win the World Open chess tournament in Philadelphia.

He currently ranks world number 6 in the world Junior category and number 45 in the overall world ranking.
