What position does Rachel Reeves hold?

Rachel Jane Reeves is a British politician and economist who is a Member of Parliament of the United Kingdom since 2010. Rachel Reeves has held the position of Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer since 2021.

Before working as an economist at the Bank of England, the British Embassy in Washington, D.C., and HBOS, Reeves attended New College, Oxford, and the London School of Economics.

She was elected in 2010 and served in Ed Miliband’s Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury from 2011 to 2013 and Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions from 2013 to 2015.

Reeves has written articles for the Fabian Society’s Fabian Review, the Institute of Public Policy Research, the Socialist Environment and Resources Association, and the European Journal of Political Economy about the 2007-2010 financial crisis.

Reeves offers her critique of the then-current financial situation and efforts to reduce the budget deficit in an article for Renewal titled “The Politics of Deficit Reduction.”

Reeves supports quantitative easing to alleviate the late-2000s recession after studying the policy’s effects on Japan in the early 2000s.
