China Coup Rumors: Is Xi Jinping Under House Arrest?

Rumours of a coup against Chinese President Xi Jinping are spreading on social media, but experts say there is no concrete evidence of a coup or any disturbance in China so far.

The evidence cited for such conjectures includes reports of cancelled passenger flights in parts of China, Xi’s absence from public view for an extended period, and footage allegedly showing military vehicles moving toward the capital Beijing.

However, there has been no official comment on these speculations, nor has there been any confirmed report of military movement towards the capital.

According to China expert Aadil Brar, Xi is likely in quarantine after returning from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, which would explain his current absence from public affairs.

Brar also shared flight data, which showed that flights were not disrupted. He also shared images of public briefings by senior Chinese officials, implying that the government is operating normally.

The South China Morning Post, based in Hong Kong, has not reported on any coup or political upheaval in China.

It has sent out dozens of tweets in the last 24 hours about various issues affecting China and the rest of the world, but not a single one about the alleged development in Beijing.
