Heyward had battled with a brain tumor, for seven years before his death.
He also suffered partial paralysis due to a stroke that occurred sometime in 2004.

Out of the University of Pittsburgh, Heyward was chosen by the New Orleans Saints as the 24th overall pick in the first round of the 1988 NFL Draft.
Heyward rushed for 1,791 yards in 1987 at Pittsburgh, earning unanimous All-America honors and ranking fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting.
Heyward was known for his startling quickness, agility, and his massive physique.
He was ranked amongst the top “big man” rushing backs in the NFL.
With a 330 pounds weight and a height of 5 ft 11inches, Heyward’s 1995 season was the last time a fullback rushed for 1,000 yards.
