Kyle Van Noy was an all-state linebacker and receiver at McQueen High School in Reno. The Detroit Lions selected Van Noy in the second round (40th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Kyle Van Noy played college football at Brigham Young University (BYU). He recorded 70 total tackles, 17 tackles-for-loss, four sacks, two interceptions, six passes defended, and two fumble recoveries in his final collegiate season.
Kyle Van Noy spent his first three seasons with the Detroit Lions. He finished his time with the Lions with a total of 39 tackles. He made his professional regular season debut against the Miami Dolphins in Week 10 on November 9, 2014.
