Yvon Chouinard is the sole owner of the clothing and gear company, Patagonia. He founded the company in 1973. According to sources, he got the inspiration in 1970 when he went on a trip to Scotland and purchased some rugby shirts and sold them at very good prices. He then developed a wide collection of rugged technical clothing.

Upon realizing how successful the company has become, raking in millions of dollars, he then dedicated it to environmental activism.

“It’s been a half-century since we began our experiment in responsible business. If we have any hope of a thriving planet 50 years from now, it demands all of us doing all we can with the resources we have. As the business leader, I never wanted to be, I am doing my part. Instead of extracting value from nature and transforming it into wealth, we are using the wealth Patagonia creates to protect the source,” he said in an interview in August 2017.
