PartyNextDoor was the first artist signed to Drake’s OVO Sound record label in 2013, in a joint venture with Warner Records. He then released his first EP self-titled PartyNextDoor later that year.
He took the name PARTYNEXTDOOR from a production filter in the Fruity Loops program, one he thought sounded closest to whichever one 40 used.
His mother is Jamaica and his father is Trinidadian, and PND told Fader that he appreciates how diverse Canada is: “You’ll see an Asian person with the strongest Jamaican accent and you won’t even look at him funny in Canada, ’cause you understand.”

How did PartyNextDoor get discovered?
Growing up in the suburb of Mississauga, PND was actually discovered by a manager who found his music on his MySpace page, according to his Fader interview.
After that, he moved to Los Angeles and got a deal to write songs for acts like Justin Bieber, but none of them were produced.
PartyNextDoor earned his first number-one song as a songwriter when on January 27, 2016, Rihanna released the lead single “Work” from her eighth studio album, Anti.
The song maintained its spot at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for nine consecutive weeks.
