Philip was at the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth and they began exchanging letters.

On July 8, 1947, they got engaged and tied the knot on November 20, 1947 in Westminster Abbey before 2,000 guests and a worldwide radio audience.

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh served as the consort of the British monarch from her accession as queen on February 6, 1952 until he died in 2021, making him the longest-serving royal consort in history.

Philip and the Queen had four children; King Charles III, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, Anne, Princess Royal and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.
