The Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II took place on June 2, 1953, when the Queen was just 27 years.

She acceded the throne, the previous year upon the sudden death of her father, George VI, on February 6, 1952. The coronation took place a year later due to the tradition of making sure an appropriate amount of time had passed after a monarch dies before holding such activities.

During the ceremony, the Queen took an oath to serve the people of the Commonwealth according to their respective laws and customs and she was anointed with holy oil.
Elizabeth was the fourth and last Bristish coronation of the 20th century and it was estimated to have cost £1.57 million.
