Why was Dexter Lumis released from his WWE contract?

On April 29, Lumis was released from WWE after three years with the company, alongside other big NXT names like Dakota Kai and Malcolm Bivens. Dexter’s release came as something of a surprise backstage.

On Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez revealed that he was given a list of around ten names and Lumis wasn’t one of them. There was, however, another name on the list who wasn’t released, who he refused to disclose.

It is, however, unclear why Dexter Lumis was released from his WWE contract.

Lumis returned to WWE on August 8, 2022, episode of Raw. His unannounced return was preceded by subtle references such as a car wreck during a backstage segment as well as cops running to the source of trouble.

Lumis could be seen in the crowd at the end of the main event between AJ Styles and The Miz in a disqualification match where he was arrested.
