Melo was born on September 23, 1983, in Brazil.
He specializes in playing doubles on the ATP and so far has achieved a career high of world Number 1 on the doubles ranking.
So far, Melo is the only Brazilian tennis player to rank tops at the ATP doubles rankings.

He has won the Grand Slam championship in doubles on two occasions – at the 2015 French Open and the 2017 Wimbledon Championships.
Melo has won 35 doubles titles on the ATP Tour, out if which 9 are at the Masters 1000 level.
Melo qualified for the final rounds at the 2013 Wimbledon Championships, the 2018 US Open, and the 2009 French Open.
Since 2008, he has been representing his country at the Davis Cup and has played at the Summer Olympic Games on three occasions.
The right-handed player, is coached by his older brother, Daniel Melo and has so far won $7,430,094 prize money all through his career.
