Earnie Shavers was a professional boxer from the United States who competed between 1969 and 1995.

Earnie Shavers had a boxing record of 68 knockout wins, including 23 in the first round. He holds a 76.4% overall knockout ratio.

Shavers was a two-time world heavyweight championship challenger and is regarded as one of the most powerful punchers in heavyweight boxing history.

Although he was active from 1969 to 1995, Shavers is best known for his work in the 1970s. His most notable victory came in March 1979, when he knocked out Ken Norton in the first round at the Las Vegas Hilton.

He also defeated former heavyweight champion Jimmy Ellis and the highly touted Jimmy Young.

Welcome to the Big Time, Shavers’ autobiography, was published in 2001. After retiring from boxing, he appeared at boxing events as a special guest, autograph signer, and motivational speaker.

Earnie Shavers passed away on September 1, 2022.  His cause of death has not been made known.
