Patrick James Riley is a former National Basketball Association player, coach, and professional basketball executive from the United States.

He has been the Miami Heat’s team president since 1995, and from 1995 to 2003 and again from 2005 to 2008, he was the team’s head coach.
Riley received three NBA Coach of the Year awards (1989–90, 1992–93, and 1996–97, as head coach of the Lakers, New York Knicks, and Heat, respectively).
Nine times, he served as the head coach of an NBA All-Star Game squad: eight times with the Western Conference squad (1982, 1983, 1985–1990, all while serving as the Lakers’ head coach), and once with the Eastern Conference squad (1993, as head coach of the Knicks).

How long did Pat Riley coach the Lakers?
Prior to leading the Knicks, Riley was head coach of the Lakers for nine years and guided the team to four NBA titles and three other NBA Finals appearances.
After taking over for Paul Westhead 11 games into the 1981-82 season, he led the Lakers to the NBA Championship in his first season as a head coach in the league.
