James Leroy “Lee” Thomas was an American professional baseball player and front-office executive.

He played for the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels, Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, and Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1961 to 1968 and for the Nankai Hawks of Nippon Professional Baseball in 1969.

Thomas was a two-time MLB All-Star. Thomas worked in the front office of the St. Louis Cardinals and was hired as general manager of the Philadelphia Phillies in 1988.

He rebuilt the Phillies roster, leading them to the 1993 World Series. He served in the role until 1997.

Thomas was married twice. He had four children. Thomas died at home in St. Louis on August 31, 2022.
