Raisa Maximovna Gorbacheva was a Soviet and Russian activist and wife of Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. She was born on 5 January 1932 and died on 20 September 1999 at age 67.

What was Raisa Gorbacheva cause of death? Raisa died on 20 September 1997, at age 67 from leukemia at at the medical clinic of the Münster University Hospital.

Her remains were repatriated to Russia and interred at the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.

Raisa was diagnosed with leukemia by the Institute of Haematology RAMS in July 1999. Four years earlier [October 1993], she suffered a stroke.

In 2006, nine years after her death, her family founded the Raisa Gorbacheva Foundation, which raises money to support those with childhood cancer.

In 2007, the Raisa Gorbacheva Institute of Pediatric Hematology and Transplantology, a division of the First Pavlov State Medical University of St. Petersburg, was opened.
