However, C. J. Gardner-Johnson changed the name on his jersey to Gardner-Johnson in honour of his stepfather, Brian Johnson for his junior year. His biological father is Chauncey Gardner Sr., however, Gardner-Johnson was raised by his stepfather Brian Johnson since his toddler stage.
