Araiza and two of his San Diego State University teammates were accused in a lawsuit in August 2022 of raping a 17-year-old girl at a Halloween party last October.
According to the suit, the girl “stumbled out of the room” following the assault “bloody and crying. Her nose, bellybutton, and ear piercings had been pulled out, and she was also bleeding”

“The facts of the incident are not what they are portrayed in the lawsuit or the press,” Araiza said in a statement released after the lawsuit was announced. “I’m looking forward to quickly clearing the air.”
Dan Gilleon, the alleged victim’s attorney, said in a statement Friday, August 26 that the primary reason for filing a civil suit was to obtain evidence and information.
