Dascha Polanco is a Dominican-American actress. Dascha Yolaine Polanco was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on December 3, 1982, to Janet Polanco and Rubén Darío Polanco.

Dascha Polanco’s father Rubén Darío Polanco was a mechanic, and her mother, a cosmetologist.
Dascha Polanco immigrated to the United States at a young age. She grew up with her mom and dad and two younger siblings in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, and Miami.
Dascha Polanco gained recognition after she was cast as Dayanara “Daya” Diaz in the hit Netflix comedy-drama series Orange Is the New Black, which she starred in from 2013 to 2019.

She has won several awards for her outstanding performance in the series, including an ALMA Award in 2014 and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance in a Drama Series.
Huffington Post recognized her as one of the Latinas to be “Breaking The Mold,” and The Hollywood Reporter named her one of the 40 Young Latino Powerhouses in Hollywood.
She is also very involved with the DREAM Project Foundation, which provides over 732,000 hours of quality education to over 8,200 children in 27 Dominican communities through 14 different programs.
