Ichiro Suzuki is a former Japanese professional baseball outfielder. He played for the Orix BlueWave of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) and the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball for 28 seasons (MLB).

Ichiro Suzuki learned to speak English during his time in Major League Baseball and is fluent in it. Ichiro Suzuki also learned Spanish and taught his teammates Japanese.

Although Ichiro Suzuki is fluent in English, he does not conduct interviews in English because he respects language differences and does not want to cause any confusion.

Ichiro Suzuki is considered as one of the best Japanese baseball players. In his combined playing time in the NPB and MLB, Suzuki received 17 consecutive selections both as an All-Star and Gold Glove winner, won nine league batting titles, and was named most valuable player (MVP) four times.

In the NPB, he won seven consecutive batting titles and three consecutive Pacific League MVP Awards. In 2001, Suzuki became the first Japanese-born position player to be posted and signed to an MLB club.
