Lily Sullivan Murderer Lewis Haines jailed minimum 23 years

Lewis Haines, a 31-year-old oil refinery worker who murdered Lily Sullivan an 18-year-old woman was sentenced on Friday August 26 to at least 23 years and four months in prison.

Lily’s body was found in Mill Pond, Pembroke, in the early hours of Friday, 17 December, 2021.

Lily’s mother, Anna Sullivan, was on the phone with her daughter when the attack began and the line went dead.

Judge Paul Thomas QC told Swansea Crown Court that Haines strangled Lily because she refused to have sex with him.

In his sentencing remarks, he stated that Haines “brutally murdered” Lily. “Face to face, you strangled her. She was entirely at your mercy.”

According to Judge Thomas, the two met at the Out nightclub in Pembroke and kissed in an alley after leaving the club.

They left the club separately, but began talking outside before walking to an alleyway near Mill Pond. “We’ll never know what happened in that lane because you chose not to tell anyone,” the judge said.

Haines previously admitted manslaughter but pleaded guilty to murder a week before his trial.
