Val Demings Parents: Meet James Butler And Elouise Lora Butler

Val Demings was born to her parents, James Butler and Elouise Lora Butler in 1957.

Her father, James worked as a janitor, while her mother, Eloise, worked as a maid.

The couple had seven children including Val, and they all lived in Mandarin, Jacksonville, Florida.

Who Is Val Demings?

Val Demings is an American politician born on March 12, 1957.

She currently serves as the U.S. Rep from Florida’s 10th congressional district.

Val attended school in the 1960s, and finished from Wolfson High School in the 1970s, where she served in the “school patrol”.

She proceeded to Florida State University, and bagged a degree in criminology. The following year, she put in for a master’s degree in public administration, which she earned from Webster University Orlando.

Val Demings Political Career

For four years, Val served as chief of the Orlando Police Department. She was the first female chief, to achieve a career of almost three decades with the department.

In 2018, Val was sworn in as first lady of Orange County, Florida, and her husband Jerry Demings was sworn in as mayor.

In 2012, Val was nominated to represent Florida’s 10th congressional district in Congress, but she lost to Republican incumbent Daniel Webster.

She was nominated again in 2016 and won, following the State Supreme Court compulsory creation of a new district in Orlando comprising of black majority.

In 2020, Val was picked by House Speaker Nancy to serve as an impeachment manager in the first Senate trial of President Donald Trump.

In 2022, Val emerged as the Democratic nominee in the U.S. Senate election in Florida.
