Jamey Rootes, the first team president in Houston Texans history, passed away at the age of 56 on Sunday, August 21 2022.

Melissa Wildgen Rootes confirmed her husband died on Sunday in Houston in a Facebook post.
“Our family is heartbroken to confirm that Jamey Rootes passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022, in Houston, Texas, after a battle with mental health issues,” Melissa Wildgen Rootes wrote.

“Jamey was best known for his dedication to his family and friends, but he was also the former President of the Houston Texans, retiring in 2021,”

“Jamey was a devoted Houstonian who loved his city and touched the lives of so many people through his professional, academic, and philanthropic endeavours.”
Our family has asked for privacy and will not respond to media inquiries. “Details of Jamey’s life celebration will be announced at a later date,” said Wildgen Rootes.
