How Did John Wockenfuss Die?

John died after suffering from dementia. He had been diagnosed with it in November 2018.

John played baseball for the Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies and was famous for his strong throwing arm, uncommon batting stance, and being able to play multiple positions.

John Wockenfuss Life And Career

Born in Welch, West Virginia, John was schooled at the John Dickinson High School in Wilmington, Delaware.

As a high school student, he played football, basketball, baseball, and was one of the best during his time.

In college, John played baseball as a pitcher and a quarterback.

The Washington Senators had drafted him as an outfielder in the 42nd round of the 1967 MLB Draft.

He ended up playing catcher and corner infielder across different teams, before he ended up with the Tigers.

He spent 10 years with the Tigers, batting .274 with 16 home runs and 65 RBIs over 126 games in 1980.
