Her parents were both diplomats at one point before her father became an art director. Tomoya Mizuno is her brother, and she has two sisters, Miya Mizuno and Mariya Mizuno.

Sonoya Mizuno attended the Royal Ballet School before going on to dance with several ballet companies, including the Dresden Semperoper Ballet, Ballet Ireland, New English Ballet Theatre, and Scottish Ballet.
