Bobby Labonte revealed that in 2019, he began to feel ill and went to the doctor to be checked out. He stated that the doctor informed him of a spot on his kidney and advised him to keep an eye on it.

He claimed that two years later, the mass on his kidney had “tripled in size,” and doctors advised him to have surgery to remove it.

Labonte said he received a call from the doctor who removed the mass, Mohamad Allaf, M.D., director of urology at Johns Hopkins in Maryland and was told that the surgery went well but that the mass was cancerous and cancer “very aggressive.”

“A lot of emotions came over me at that time because I was relieved but then also like, wow, that’s crazy because one-third of the patients that are diagnosed with this doesn’t make it,” he said.

Since the mass was removed, Labonte has been racing again. He is a full-time competitor in the Superstar Racing Experience, driving the No. 18 car.
