Marta Palau Bosch was a Mexican-born artist. Marta Palau Bosch passed away on Friday, August 12, 2022, at the age of 88.

Marta Palau Bosch was born in Albesa, Spain on July 17, 1934. Palau was a founding member of the Salón Independiente de which was established in 1968

Salón Independiente de was a collectively organised artistic project in response to the Institute’s convocation of the “Exposición Solar” (Solar Exhibition), highlighting current artistic themes in Mexico as a parallel cultural event for the 1968 Summer Olympics.

She worked in engraving, painting, sculpture, and, most notably, tapestry, distinguishing herself through her profound artistic use and arrangement of indigenous Mexican natural materials.

During the 1970s, she was one of the first Mexican artists to focus on themes of women’s and immigrants’ experiences, particularly in her Ilerda series of tapestries and later with her Nahual sculptures.

Marta Palau Bosch established the International Hall of Banners. Her work, which also includes graphics, combines different genres.

She took part in five editions of the Michoacan International Miniature Textile Exhibition between 1982 and 1986, and she worked for several years at the Tijuana Cultural Center, where she has a space named after her.
