Linda Louise McCartney was an American photographer, musician, animal rights activist, vegetarian cookbook author and advocate, and entrepreneur.

She was the keyboardist in the band Wings, which included her husband, Paul McCartney, a former Beatles member.

McCartney was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1995, and the disease spread to her liver, worsening her condition. “The doctors had told me privately that we’d caught it too late, that she’ll have about 18 months,” Paul later stated.

On April 17, 1998, at the age of 56, she died of the disease at the McCartney family ranch in Tucson, Arizona. Her family was present when she died.

McCartney’s ashes were scattered at the McCartney family’s English farm in Sussex after she was cremated in Tucson.

A memorial service was held at St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London, attended by George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Billy Joel, Elton John, David Gilmour, Peter Gabriel, and other celebrities among a congregation of 700.

The Linda McCartney Centre, a cancer clinic, opened at The Royal Liverpool University Hospital in 2000.
