Billy Legg Obituary

William Campbell Legg (Billy Legg), an English professional footballer, who played for Huddersfield Town and Bradford Park Avenue has died. He was born on 17 April 1948 and died in August 2022, aged 74.

Legg, a left-back lined up for Bradford (Park Avenue) and played 60 times for Huddersfield Town in the 1960s, registering four goals.

Legg also played in the same Town side as the former England international forward Frank Worthington, noted for his flamboyance and flair.

When Legg later managed Guiseley in a two-year spell between 1989 and 1991, he signed Worthington, the flamboyant flair player.

Worthington went on to make 20 appearances for Guiseley in 1990, and scored seven goals.

Legg had a successful spell in charge of the Guisely, as he led them to the FA Vase semi-finals during the 1989–90 season.

Incidentally, it was the first time Guiseley reached this stage of the non-league cup competition.

However, Guiseley failed to make it to the showpiece, as they lost 4-0 on aggregate to Bridlington Town.

Guiseley took to social media to tweet their own tribute to their former boss, alongside a picture of him taken during his coaching career.

His former club Huddersfield, also tweeted;

We are saddened to hear that William ‘Billy’ Legg has passed away. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this time.

Billy played 60 times for Town between 1965-1969.
