Issey Miyake Cause Of Death

Japanese fashion designer, Issey Miyake, passed away on August 5, 2022, after suffering from liver cancer. He was aged 83.

The death of the designer was announced by the Miyake Design studio.

Born on 22 April 1938, in Hiroshima, Japan, Miyake is famous for his cutting-edge pleated style of clothing and designer perfumes, such as L’eau d’Issey.

From the 1980s till date, he was a household name in the global fashion industry.

His technology and innovative-driven designs and pleats could be machine washed, would never go out of shape.

Miyake is known to have produced the black turtleneck that became part of the signature look of late Apple founder, Steve Jobs.

Issey Miyake Career

Miyake is known for the saying “Design is not for philosophy—it’s for life.”

Between 1996 and 1999 Miyake worked together with artists such as the photographer and collage maker Yasumasa Morimura, Nobuyoshi Araki, Tim Hawkinson, and Cai Guo-Qiang.

Between 1994 and 1999, he changed the design of the men’s and women’s collections and decided to go back to the drawing board, coming up later with great designs.

Miyake was one of the co-Directors of Japan’s first design museum – 21 21 DESIGN SIGHT.

He celebrated 45 years of his fashion career in grand style in 2016.
