Mark Gil was a Filipino actor who was frequently cast as the main antagonist in action films. Mark Gil died on September 1, 2014, 24 days before his 53rd birthday, of cirrhosis of the liver caused by liver cancer.

The actor’s family revealed in a statement that he had secretly been diagnosed with liver cancer in 2012, and was told in June that the disease was terminal.

He was the middle child of Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil, as well as the brother of Michael de Mesa and Cherie Gil.

Mark Gil rose to prominence after portraying Lorna Tolentino’s former American boss-lover-killer in the drama-suspense thriller The Elsa Castillo Story: The Chop-Chop Lady, based on true events.

He also appeared in several drama series, the most recent being the ABS-CBN drama The Legal Wife, which starred Angel Locsin and Jericho Rosales.

Mark Gil was survived by his wife Maricar, and children Andi, Gabby, Maxene, Ira, and Timothy Mark Eigenmann
