Following the success of “Coyote Ugly,” Perabo turned her attention to independent films. She made her film debut in 2001 with “Lost and Delirious,” in which she played a boarding school student who falls in love with a female classmate.

Perabo’s and her co-stars Jessica Pare and Mischa Barton’s performances were praised, but the film itself received mixed reviews. In 2003, she played Nora, the oldest daughter, in the film Cheaper by the Dozen.
