Vin and his first wife, Joan, were married for close to 15 years when she passed away in 1972 at the age of 35.

According to reports, Joan passed away from an “accidental overdose of medicine”. Vin and Joan shared three young children and following Joan’s passing, they were all taken care of by Vin.

In 1974, thus two years after Joan passed away, Vin married his second wife, Sandra Hunt, who, at the time, was serving as the secretary for the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams.

Sandra already had two children from her previous marriage. However, Sandra and Vin later had a daughter of their own named Catherine.

According to USA Today, Sandra passed away at the age of 76 in January 2021 due to complications from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a nervous system disease that weakens muscles and impacts physical function.

In this disease, nerve cells break down, which reduces functionality in the muscles that they supply. The cause is unknown and its main symptom is muscle weakness.

Medication and therapy can slow ALS and reduce discomfort, but there’s no cure.

Sadly, Vin Scully, the voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers for more than six decades, also died at his home in Hidden Hills, California, at the age of 94. A cause of death was not given.
