Peter Gabriel was not kicked out of Genesis. On August 15, 1975, Peter Gabriel officially announced his departure from Genesis, ending weeks of speculation that a split was imminent.

A record company spokesman said at the time that Gabriel was leaving to pursue “other literary and experimental interests outside of music.”

One of the reasons he gave for quitting was that he wanted to spend more time with his family. Peter has had a successful solo career since leaving Genesis in 1975, selling millions of records and winning numerous awards.
