How many Countries are participating in The Commonwealth Games?

The 2022 Commonwealth Games officially began on July 28 in Birmingham, United Kingdom. It is the 22nd edition of the competition.

England is hosting the Commonwealth Games for the third time, following London in 1930 and Manchester in 2002, and the seventh time in the country’s history.

It is the largest multi-sport event to be held in the United Kingdom since the London Olympics in 2012.

The 2022 Commonwealth Games features approximately 6,500 competitors and officials from 72 nations and territories over 11 days of competition.

The four home countries of the United Kingdom, England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland will compete in separate teams.

Other nations include Australia, New Zealand, Canada, India, Ghana and South Africa, among others.

One of the distinguishing characteristics of the Commonwealth Games is that several dependent territories compete under their flags, whereas they do not do so at the Olympic Games.

Australia leads the medals table all time, followed by England, Canada, India, New Zealand, and South Africa.
