Shakira Risks Eight Years Jail Term Over Tax Evasion Worth Millions Of Pounds In Spain

Hips Don’t Lie singer, Shakira, is currently being charged for evading taxes worth £12m tax, between 2012 and 2014.

The pop star, if found guilty, will be sentenced to 8 years in prison and is likely to pay a fine of £19.2m.

Shakira, who is known for her 2001 hit song ‘Wherever, Whenever’, is accused of living a false life abroad just to evade taxes, despite the fact that she had been living in Barcelona, Spain since 2011, with her ex-lover, Gerard Pique.

Just last month, Shakira and Pique, who is a Spanish footballer, had broken up over cheating allegations.

Shakira was formerly a tax resident in the Bahamas and became a full tax resident in Spain in 2015.

She claims to have paid out an estimated three million euros (£2.5m).

Tax inspectors, after spending much time checking in the singer, said she had spent 242 days in Spain in 2012, 212 days in 2013 and 243 days in 2014.

The 80 million records best seller, has however denied the allegations.

The singer is however confident that she would win the court case.
