Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels has not been active since July 12, 2022, due to what was initially diagnosed as back spasms.

According to Angels head trainer Mike Frostad, the cause of Mike Trout’s back spasms has been identified as costovertebral dysfunction.
Mike Frostad explained the condition saying: “He has a fairly uncommon condition in his back right now.” Dr Robert Watkins, one of the country’s, if not the world’s, most well-known spine surgeons, doesn’t see many of these.

For it to happen in a baseball player, we simply have to consider what he puts himself through with hitting and swinging daily just to get ready, and then playing in the outfield, diving for balls. Jumping into the wall, for example.”
According to Sam Blum of The Athletics, Trout was given a cortisone shot that could take at least a week to take effect.
Trout could resume baseball activities once that happens. He’s started a core stability programme and done cardio, but the Angels don’t have a timetable for his return yet.
