The Sparks announced on Tuesday, July 26 2022 that they had reached an agreement with the four-time All-Star on a “contract divorce.”

“We share Liz Cambage’s decision to terminate her contract with the organisation with support,”

Sparks managing partner Eric Holoman said. “We both want the best for Liz, so we’ve agreed to part ways amicably. The Sparks are still excited about our core group and are focused on making a playoff run in 2022.”

Girls Talk Sports TV’s Khristina Williams reported earlier Tuesday, July 26 that Cambage “quit” the Sparks and “wants out” of Los Angeles.

It’s unclear why Cambage chose to terminate her contract with the Sparks at this time, but Williams hinted that Cambage cited physical struggles as a reason for the unexpected departure, as well as personal issues that were “lingering.”

Cambage joined the Sparks on a one-year contract in February after previously playing for the Las Vegas Aces in 2019 and 2021. She missed the 2020 season due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
