Carissa Moore was born on August 27, 1992, in Hawaii, to her parents, Carol Lum and Chris Moore.

Carol Lum

Carissa’s mother, Carol Lum, is a native of Hawaii and has Filipino roots. She had been adopted and brought up in a Chinese-American family.

She had divorced Carissa’s dad at the time Carissa was just 10 years old. However, she had been supportive of her daughter’s career all the way.

Chris Moore

Carissa’s father, Chris Moore, used to be a competitive open water swimmer who won a lot of competitions during his time.

Chris is white but has Irish and German roots.

Chris had trained Carissa to surf off the beaches of Waikiki in Honolulu, Hawaii, from an early age of 5.

Even when his marriage to Carol broke, and Carissa had to go leave with her mother, she didn’t stop surfing.

Who Is Carissa Moore?

Carissa was the first Olympic Gold Medalist in women’s short board surfing in 2020.

At age 11, Carissa had recorded multiple wins at National Scholastic Surfing Association, NSSA, junior surf competitions.

By the time she was 16, she had 11 NSSA amateur titles to her name. She was crowned the youngest champion at a Triple Crown Surfing event at that time.

She clinched the Women’s Championship tittles for 5 years, at the 2011, 2013, 2015, 2019 and 2021 World Surf League WSL Women’s World Tour Champion, and has since 2014, been inducted into the Surfers’ Hall of Fame.
