Palmer made her acting debut at the age of 10 in 2004’s Barbershop 2: Back in Business, playing Queen Latifah’s character’s niece.

Between 2004 and 2006, she appeared in episodes of several television shows, including Cold Case, Strong Medicine, ER, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

She was subsequently cast in two films released in 2006: Madea’s Family Reunion and Akeelah and the Bee, in which she starred as Akeelah Anderson, a young girl from South Los Angeles who attempts to win a spelling bee.

Palmer’s performance in Akeelah and the Bee, which was released on April 28, 2006, received several positive reviews, including praise from film critic Roger Ebert.

Keke was also a lead actress in True Jackson VP and Joyful Noise. Keke has won a Primetime Emmy, five NAACP Image Awards, and has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

She was named to Time magazine’s list of the world’s most influential people in 2019.
