Max Verstappen won the French Grand Prix with a dominant performance, taking a significant step toward his second Formula One world championship, while title rival Charle Leclerc crashed out from the lead on Sunday, July 24, 2022.

The Red Bull driver cruised to victory at Paul Ricard, with Lewis Hamilton in second and George Russell in third, giving Mercedes its first double podium of the season.
Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Pérez finished fourth, and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz finished fifth after starting 19th.

Verstappen’s win from second on the grid was unspectacular in a race defined by the moment Leclerc made an uncharacteristic error that cost him the championship.
The victory has crucially increased Verstappen’s lead over championship leader Charles Leclerc to 63 points with ten races remaining.
This is the 27th win of Verstappen’s career, his sixth in the last nine races and seventh of the season. He is the first driver to win from a position other than pole since the race was reinstated on the calendar in 2018.
