There are now seven cases of monkeypox identified in Oregon. The disease spreads by prolonged skin-to-skin contact, and the treatment options are fairly robust.

Dr Tim Menza, a senior health advisor with the Oregon Health Authority, said the latest two cases, both in Washington County, were identified Thursday morning; health officials expect to identify potentially many more in the coming weeks.

There have been 4769 cases worldwide as of Tuesday. In the US, there have been 306 cases in 28 states.
