Alongside chief executive Rick Parry, he presided over Liverpool’s entry into the newly founded Premier League in 1992 and oversaw the managerial appointments of Roy Evans, Gerard Houllier and Rafael Benitez during his time at the club.

I pursuit of greater succes, Moores increasingly sought external investment to help Liverpool develop a new ground, and ended up selling it in 2007, to American investors Tom Hicks and George Gillett, instead of to Sheikh Mohammed and DIC, a decision he’d later regret.

Moores returned to Anfield for the first time in a decade in December 2019 to watch Jurgen Klopp’s side beat Everton 5-2.

A statement of condolence from Liverpool F.C read;

Liverpool FC is deeply saddened by the passing of former chairman and owner David Moores.
