Athing Mu is a professional American middle-distance runner. She created history by winning the gold medal in the women’s 800m race at the Summer Tokyo Olympics with a time of 1:55:21.

Great Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson won the silver medal with a timing of 1:55:88 seconds and Raevyn Rogers of America won the bronze medal with a timing of 1:56:81.

Before the Olympics, Mu had set a world under-20 record in the women’s indoor 800m in early 2021 with a time of 1:58:40, and in 2019 the world’s best in the under-20 indoor 600m.

Athing Mu was born on 8 June 2002 in Trenton, New Jersey United States. She is second among siblings with her.

What events does Athing MU compete in?

Since turning professional ahead of U.S. Olympic Trials in June 2021, Mu has won 19 consecutive races in four different events, including heats, semifinals, and finals in the 400m, 600m, mile, and 4x400m relay.

Other prominent events on 21st July 2022 included the first round of the women’s 800m, where Tokyo Olympic champion and American record holder Athing Mu made her World Championship debut alongside Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Raevyn Rogers and 2022 indoor world champion Ajee Wilson.
